Questions

Mastic & silicone sealing FAQs

What's the difference between mastic and silicone?

Mastic is a paintable, oil-based sealant used mainly on timber joinery and skirting. Silicone is flexible, water-resistant and used in bathrooms, kitchens and wet areas — it can't be painted.

How long does a sealant joint last?

It varies too much — movement, moisture, maintenance and the product used all affect it — for one confident number to cover every joint. As a working example, a well-prepared bathroom joint typically runs 8–12 years under normal conditions. Most early failures trace back to sealant applied over the old joint rather than a fresh, clean substrate.

Do you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We take on domestic and commercial work, including multi-unit developments and fit-outs run to a programme.

Do you offer a guarantee on the work?

Yes, workmanship is guaranteed. If a joint fails through poor application within the guarantee period we'll return and put it right.
