Questions

Floor & skirting board sealing FAQs

Why does the gap under my skirting board need sealing?

An open gap lets draughts, dust and moisture through, and it opens up further as flooring settles. A mastic joint closes it and flexes with normal movement.

Can this be painted to match the skirting?

Yes — we use a paintable mastic specifically so the finished joint can be decorated to match the skirting and wall colour.

Does this work with any flooring type?

Yes, laminate, engineered wood, tile and carpet gripper edges all take a mastic perimeter joint — the approach is the same.

Will the joint crack again if the floor moves?

A flexible mastic is chosen specifically to accommodate normal seasonal movement, which is what causes rigid fillers to crack out.
